In this edition of the SVC Podcast, SVC Contributing Editor Bennett Liles continues his discussion with Peter Borchard of MuSonics about the sound system and acoustics upgrade at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, S.D. Borchard provides details on the system design for unattended operation in a church without an inhouse sound technician, and he expands on the challenges presented in the use of microphones in such a reverberant environment. The job of routing cable for long runs in the cathedral is also explored.

In this edition of the SVC Podcast, SVC Contributing Editor Bennett Liles talks with Casey Sherred and Brian Elwell of Acoustic Dimensions about a total sound system upgrade at Texas Christian University’s Amon G. Carter Stadium. Casey and Brian provide details on the system design which changed during construction from an end zone system to a distributed system and back to an end zone design. Using JBL VLA line arrays and other speaker models, they completely outfitted the stadium and fitted the surrounding club areas with locally controlled sound setups for all major events.

MuSonics and Audio Connections of Brookings, S.D., installed a new wireless microphone system and convinced the priests to use head worn microphones for better sound.

Ben outlines an ambitious digital signage project undertaken by RTS at Mt. Sinai Hospital featuring the MediaZone digital signage software application from Keywest Technology and he discusses operator training and the features of MediaZone that attracted his interest. With this project, RTS took Mt. Sinai Hospital from paper signs and easels all the way to a complete digital signage system worthy of the Hospital’s famous name.

Among the equipment installed was a 64-channel Aviom signal distribution system and a newly designed left-center-right speaker array for the sanctuary. The church also uses wireless in-ear monitoring and microphone systems and records services using multi-track sound distribution.

Frank takes listeners through the details of live video production during games in the arena. He outlines his operation of instant replays and describes how he uses the Broadcast Pix Slate 3016 features such as Fluent Watch-Folders for updating graphics in mid-production. Frank also covers the arena’s new Sony cameras, the audio system and the video feed to the new Daktronics scoreboard.
