In this edition of the SVC Podcast, SVC Contributing Editor Bennett Liles wraps up his chat with Jim Hoyle of Audio & Light in Greensboro, N.C., on the sound system upgrade at Elon University’s Whitley Auditorium. Hoyle provides more details on the Whitley Auditorium sound system including the mixer, wireless microphones, and the audio processor. He discusses the scheduling of the installation around the venue’s crowded event lineup, and outlines the final testing and tweaking of the whole system and how it performed in its first real event.

John expands on the capabilities of the Brooklyn II Dante protocol card from Audinate when it is added to the Allen & Heath iLive mixing system. He also discusses the Sennheiser wireless in-ear monitoring system used by performers and band members at the church.

The venue was designed in the 1920’s as an acoustical environment for its Casavant pipe organ, but over the years it has come to be used for a wide variety of events. Hoyle recounts how Audio & Light installed a sound system centered on the DAS Audio Variant series speaker array and how the acoustic environment was initially analyzed.

Williams details the strategy the church followed in equipping all of the band members with iPads to allow them to do their own stereo monitor mixes and he discusses the addition of the mixer’s Brooklyn II Dante card from Audinate.
