In this edition (Listen to part one), SVC contributing editor Bennett Liles continues his chat with Paul Parrie, associate vice president of technology at the National World War II Museum. In this part, Paul explores the audio system in the high-tech Solomon Victory Theater and tells the story of how the technical show elements were originally conceived, installed, and tweaked during weeks of show rehearsals and technical testing. He also discusses the substantial routine maintenance procedures that are used to keep the intricate mechanisms, moving stage units, sound, lighting, and projection working in sync to provide the maximum experience in the World War II multimedia presentation Beyond All Boundaries.

In this edition, SVC contributing editor Bennett Liles continues his talk with Mark Baker, technical support manager at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland. Baker outlines his uses for the gear in rolling racks, the Aviom passive splits, and the advantages of the system’s extremely low latency. He also details the center’s program as the only certified ProTools training facility in the state and the specific requirements for ProTools training certification are discussed. Paul describes the museum and provides a fascinating backstage look at how all of the mechanisms work in Beyond All Boundaries, a multimedia experience that immerses the Solomon Victory Theater audience in the sights, sounds and even the tactile aspects of World War II combat. In part one, the AV aspects of some of the museum’s other venues are discussed along with the main theater’s multi-layered edge-blending projection and master timecode-chasing system.
