In this edition of the SVC Podcast, SVC Contributing Editor Bennett Liles wraps up his talk with Amit Peleg of New York systems integration and design firm Peltrix about the complete renovation and installation of new audio and video system in the historic Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. Peleg provides details on the video system installed by Peltrix to augment the entertainment in the venue. He also discusses the production switchers and projection on the screens near the stage.

Conners outlines the work he did on the Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City using a Tannoy QFlex speaker system. The acoustical challenge of the project is explored along with the architectural hurdles in getting wiring to the speakers after the original central speaker cluster was replaced. He also discusses the way he and Marc Warling from Online Marketing used the advanced beam-steering algorithm that allows precise control over the throw of the loudspeaker.

Brosious gets into the AJA Ki Pro recorders, the LiveU video-over-cellular transmitter, the van’s MotoSAT satellite transmitter, and the BroadcastPix Granite 500 switcher. He also discusses the van’s audio capabilities and reveals the wide variety of program formats the van is required to handle.

The exhibit conveys the atmosphere of a turn of the century general store by mixing triggered sound and video with live actors and it even includes an audio animatronic butcher. McCurdy expands on the show design and installation along with the initial testing and tweaking of the event timing. He also discusses his remote monitoring and programming capability.

He discusses the scheduling of the installation around the venue’s crowded event lineup, and outlines the final testing and tweaking of the whole system and how it performed in its first real event.

Hoyle recounts how Audio & Light installed a sound system centered on the DAS Audio Variant series speaker array and how the acoustic environment was initially analyzed.
